Workshops

Each workshop typically lasts around 4 hours and each participant will also get a copy of my Ebook (A step-by-step guide to Light Painting, or Macro Photography). My Workshops offer a unique learning experience and they tend to fill up pretty quickly, so if you’d like to attend on a specific date please try to book soon. More Workshop dates will be added to my website in due course.

Light Painting Workshops

Each workshop typically lasts around 4 hours. Each participant will also get a copy of my Ebook (A step-by-step guide to Light Painting) and a goodie bag of LEDs to take away at the end.

The first 30 minutes will be spent talking about the theory behind light painting and looking at how we set up our cameras for a long exposure / light painting session. Then the real fun can begin. We will then spend the remainder of the workshop creating light paintings using the weird and wonderful devices and tools that I will be bringing along on the day.

If you would rather attend the workshop without bringing along all of your photography gear that is absolutely fine. I always bring along my camera gear to document the work that we make during the workshop so you can use my camera if you prefer. I would however encourage participants to bring along their camera gear (if you have a camera / tripod / cable release) as I believe you will have a more meaningful learning experience if you are setting up your own camera.

As the weather can be rather unpredictable, I will be hosting these workshops at a great indoor venue which will allow us darkness and plenty of space to make some really exciting work. Please don’t worry if you have never tried this technique before as my workshops are designed so that anyone can understand exactly how the process works.

Cancellations and refunds: Please make sure you are 100% able to attend before booking as we are unable to offer refunds. Instead we are able to reschedule your booking for another workshop date of your choosing or offer you a credit note to the full value of the purchase. This is available up to 14 days before the workshop event takes place. Cancellation requests made within 13 days or less prior to any workshop will receive a credit note to the value of 50% of the booking fee.

Macro Photography Workshops

Each workshop typically lasts around 3-4 hours and each participant will also get a copy of my Ebook (A step-by-step guide to Miniature Worlds) to take away at the end.

The first 20-30 minutes will be spent discussing the creative process; how we form creative ideas, looking at how we set up our cameras for a macro photography session, and how to create foregrounds and backdrops for our little dioramas. Then the real fun can begin! We will spend the remainder of the workshop creating miniature worlds using the props and figurines that I will be bringing along on the day.

If you would rather attend the workshop without bringing along all of your photography gear that is absolutely fine. I would however encourage participants to bring along their camera gear (if you have a camera/tripod/zoom lens) as I believe you will have a more meaningful learning experience if you are setting up your own camera. You can always just bring along your mobile phone if you prefer.
I will be hosting these workshops at a great indoor studio which contains plenty of surface space for making the work on. The studio also provides professional lighting equipment for lighting the scenes with which we can use when needed. I have been practising macro photography for 25 years now so you will be in good hands – my Workshops are suitable for complete beginners so please don’t feel like you require any previous experience with macro photography to attend.
